The New World of Marcoms M&A breakfast | Melbourne | Sydney

Written by Nicole Revers | 10 August 2018

SI Partners’ New World of Marcoms M&A breakfast talk in Sydney, and in Melbourne saw Alistair Angus, SI Partners’ APAC M&A lead joined by a number of guest speakers to reveal the disconnect between what agencies think international buyers want, which growth strategies agency leaders prioritise and what acquirers actually look for.

The panel of guest speakers, in addition to SI’s Alistair Angus, included SI Partners Director Australia, Julia Vargiu, who discussed how to ensure agencies are hitting the growth targets acquirers are looking for; Kathryn Williams, the founder of Kathryn’s Mint, who shared how to manage financial processes to get your business acquirer ready; and Steven Digby and Stephen von Muenster of DVM Law, who offered advice on how to navigate approaches from acquirers, how sellers should prepare and more.

The two breakfasts, which took place in Melbourne and Sydney, saw guests receive an in-depth analysis from Alistair Angus on the criteria used by creative sector acquirers when assessing businesses in the industry and what they can do to achieve a premium valuation in sale. The panel discussion explored how to achieve growth targets, become acquirer-ready, attract an international buyer and successfully navigate Due Diligence.

The research reveals that agencies are pursuing growth plans that may not position them to build their equity value optimally, with more than half of the agencies’ studied not hitting the revenue growth rates that buyers look for; typically 15% or more.
